TEST UPDATE
Good morning everyone!
As you know, students are to bring tests home on Friday to get signed and brought back to school if they get more than 2 wrong. However, over the last few weeks, I have spent much of my time trying to get students to bring their tests back signed and keeping track or who did and who didn't. I don't like to take recess from them so basically, I don't have any way to reinforce the importance of parents seeing tests.
With that said, I am no longer going to require students to get their tests signed and brought back to school. Please look for their tests to come home each Friday so that you are aware of how your child is doing in reading/writing. I don't want grades to be a surprise at report card time. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
Thanks!
Mindy Smith :)

Spelling and Reading Tests-Update
Reminder: Students took their Unit 2 Week 1 Spelling and Reading Tests today. If they got more than 2 incorrect, they will be bringing it home to get signed.
Starting next week, we are going to try something new. Students are going to take the Reading Test on paper. While I really like administering it online, allowing students to take the test on paper will let them go back and highlight/circle answers. While they can go back and reread on the computer, I'm wondering if the opportunity to use a highlighter and pencil to go back and find answers will be more beneficial to students. I polled the kids today and half wanted to do it on paper and half wanted to do it on the computer. I'm going to check the scores over the next few weeks and make a decision going forward depending on the results.
Let me know if you have any questions!
Thanks,
Mindy :)

Benchmark Testing
Students will be bringing home their benchmark test today to get signed. Please sign it and send it back. On the front of the test, you will see notes from me regarding scores. This is what they stand for:
Literary Elements-out of 9 points
Cause and Effect-out of 5 points
Compare and Contrast-out of 1 point
Sequencing-out of 3 points
The open-ended response was worth 4 points towards compare and contrast. The question was: Think about what Ichiro and Daedalus did in the two stories you read. In what ways do the two characters act similarly? Use details or examples from both stories to explain your answers.
Students should have shared 2 ways that the characters acted similarly and should have provided an example for each.
Let me know if you have any questions!
